Peppol in Belgium
Peppol and the e-invoicing mandate, explained simply.
What changes, what do you need to do and how do you sort it without hassle? Everything you need to know on one page.
The basics
What is Peppol?
Peppol is a European network through which businesses exchange structured e-invoices. Your invoice no longer goes by email, but straight from your invoicing software to your customer's.
Think of the mobile network: whichever provider you have, you can call anyone. Peppol works the same way, whatever software you or your customer use.
The law
Is it mandatory?
Yes. Since 1 January 2026 Belgian VAT-registered businesses must send B2B invoices electronically and be able to receive them.
This also applies to businesses under the small business exemption scheme. Invoices to consumers are not covered by the mandate.
How it works
The four-corner model
Your invoice travels via two Access Points. You and your customer only need to use your own software.
- 1
Your business
Creates the invoice in ProFactuur
- 2
Your Access Point
Checks and sends
- 3
Customer's Access Point
Receives via Peppol
- 4
Your customer
The invoice lands in their accounts
Your address on the network
What is a Peppol ID?
Every participant has a unique address on the network. For Belgian businesses it is 0208 followed by the CBE number.
